BASILICATA

Aglianico del Vulture is the main grape variety in Basilicata, with over 60% of the vineyard area which represents 90% of the production of PDO and PGI wines. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Montepulciano are grown in the Val d'Agri (Terre del Alta Val d'Agri DOC) and in the Roccanova area (Grottino di Roccanova DOC). In the area of ​​Matera, Primitivo is the main grape variety, flanked here also by Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Other varieties of red grapes in the region are Aleatico and Bombino Nero.

Whites, although less common, include Malvasia Bianca, Verdeca, Bombino Bianco and Chardonnay.
